Jalapeño Havarti Grilled Cheese (Printable)

Crispy golden bread layered with smooth Havarti and zesty jalapeño slices creates this spicy comfort classic.

# What You Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices sourdough or country white bread

→ Dairy

02 - 4 oz Havarti cheese, sliced
03 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

→ Vegetables

04 - 1 fresh jalapeño, thinly sliced (remove seeds for less heat)

→ Optional

05 - 1 tbsp mayonnaise (for extra crispiness)

# How to Make:

01 - Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
02 - Butter one side of each bread slice evenly. Optionally spread mayonnaise on the inside of each slice for enhanced crispiness.
03 - Place two bread slices buttered side down on a clean surface. Layer with Havarti cheese and distribute jalapeño slices evenly over the cheese. Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.
04 - Place sandwiches onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is fully melted.
05 - Remove from skillet, let cool for 1 minute, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The havartis mild buttery flavor lets the jalapeños shine without overwhelming your palate
  • That perfect crunch when you bite through golden bread into gooey melted cheese
  • Ready in under 20 minutes but tastes like something from a fancy diner
02 -
  • Low and slow is better than high and fast—patience prevents burnt bread before the cheese melts
  • Pressing gently with your spatula helps the cheese adhere to both bread slices
  • Letting the sandwich rest prevents all that glorious cheese from oozing out when you cut it
03 -
  • Grate some extra havarti on the outside before grilling for an extra cheesy crust
  • Use a cast iron skillet for the most even heat distribution and best browning
